Did you hear that I’m now a PeePaw? Yes, we welcomed our first grandchild last Sunday! I’ll refrain from posting too many baby pictures, but the grandparent thing is already pretty awesome. I love being a father and the opportunity to be a grandfather has caused me to reflect on the life-changes during this transition. Alison and I brought our oldest, Will, home from the hospital and real life began. Our son consumed our attention with feedings, diaper changes, and the confusion that he needed to sleep (during the night). We are blessed with parents who supported our growth and teaching us how to parents. In addition, we were a part of several small groups over the years of parenting that provided us with support as we sought to “train up a child in the way he should go; and when he is old, he will not depart from it” Proverbs 22:6. We all grew as others encouraged us.
This month, our local spotlight is Athens Pregnancy Center to celebrate the birth of first granddaughter, Willa Jane Smith. This ministry stands for life and the encouragement of families by supporting both moms and dads. In 2020, they conducted 348 pregnancy test appointments, 220 ultrasound appointments, 96 attended group classes, 159 individual classes, and 100 visits to the baby boutique for supplies. This is such a great resource center for individuals to learn of the tremendous blessings of parenthood. The needs for this ministry continue and can be provided in the form of volunteers, donations, and prayer. Please let us know if you are interested in assisting, and we can provide direction.
